Galentine's Day - Another gimmick or a meaningful moment?

When we first heard of Galentine's Day, we rolled our eyes and thought it was just another marketing gimmick to make us spend money. And don't get us wrong, it absolutely can be! But when we really started thinking about what it represents and what it means to us, it became our new favourite celebration. Here's why...

• Our friends are the family we chose! There's something special about a relationship that has no obligations. Friendships are completely voluntary with no official ties, yet they tend to be the most consistent relationships in our lives. Our long term besties deserve recognition and a special treat!
• Boys come and go, but girls are for life. Our feelings on this are summed up by our favourite socks - Fries Before Guys! Our girl friends are always there to pick up the pieces after a break up.
• The no-blood Auntie! Our girl friends are Aunties to our children, we share school pick-ups, sleepovers, emergency childcare and provide a free helpline for advice despite juggling busy lives. We hold each other up, so a thank you gift is absolutely in order!

So yes, Galentine's Day can be just another gimmick, but when you think about how much your friends mean to you, taking a moment to tell them how much you appreciate them doesn't seem like such a bad idea.
