Mother’s Day 2026 falls on Sunday 15th March. It’s classically known as Mothering Sunday and it sneaks up on us sooner than we think! So if you’re reading this and a mild panic is setting in, don’t worry, you’re in the right place!

I mean it’s only the day that most of us celebrate the most important women in our lives… yet it’s easy to forget (cue the guilt). Last-minute doesn’t need to mean boring and generic, you can still blow her socks off with a funny and thoughtful day, all about her!

Sunday 15th March, 2026! Get it in the diary!

Will it helpfully be that date every year so you can set a recurring calendar reminder? Of course not, that would be too easy! Why is it Called Mothering Sunday?

It actually traditionally had nothing to do with Mums! The reason it’s tied to the Christian calendar in the UK is because it was originally the day you returned to your ‘mother church’; the one where you were christened or your parish church and when you did this you were said to be ‘going a-mothering’. On this day, servants were often given the day off to visit their own families, resulting in family celebrations so the shift turned towards showing appreciation of their own Mothers hence, Mothering Sunday.

Is Mother’s Day the Same Date Everywhere?

Nope! That would be too easy…

UK and Ireland – 15th March 2026

Spain – 3rd May 2026

USA, Australia, New Zealand, Italy – 10th May 2026

France - 31st May 2026

So, if your family are spread further afield, you have a little more time to get organised. But don’t do what I would do and think ‘oh it’s ages away, I don’t have to think about that yet’ because it’ll arrive sooner than you think!
